The Tanganyika Tilapia is one of the many species of cichlid native to Africa's Lake Tanganyika and its connected rivers.
Breeding males, above, are brightly-coloured (above right with Angolan Walking Catfish). The tilapia can exceed 40cm in length.
Females, above, and non-breeding males are plainer. Breeding males defend a territory in shallow water. Females protect
fertilised eggs and young hatchlings in their mouths.
