The Bleeding Heart Tetra is native to the upper Amazon Basin. They grow to some 6 cm long. Both male and female are pinkish fish with a darker pink-red blotch on the pectoral flank which gives them their name. Both have the black and white mark on their dorsal fin but the male (above right) has a longer dorsal fin.
