Siberian Sturgeon Huso (prev. Acipenser) baerii

The Siberian Sturgeon has two subspecies: one migrates across river systems of northern Russia and the other is sedentary, native to southern Russia's Lake Baikal, the world's largest freshwater lake. They reach 2 metres long and can live for over 60 years. The topside is generally brown to black; it can be silver-grey but darkens with age.

Like two-thirds of sturgeon species, it is critically endangered due to overfishing (for meat and roe/caviar), pollution and degradation or loss of habitat and dam building blocking migration routes.
