The Russian Sturgeon, also called the Danube Sturgeon, is native to the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea,
migrating into the feeder rivers of those seas to spawn.
It has a grey-brown topside with characteristic small, pale, dorsal humps and a white underside.
It can grow to 2.3 metres long and weigh some 115kg. It eats crustaceans, molluscs and small fish.

It is critically endangered due to overfishing (including illegal fishing for roe/caviar), pollution and habitat loss.
