The Harlequin Sharkminnow, named "shark" after its torpedo-shaped body and high, triangular dorsal fin and "harlequin"
after the red or monochrome variegated pattern of the juveniles, is native to the Congo River Basin in Africa. The "cyclorhynchus"
or round nose name is evident from its eating pose in the above photos.
They grow to 15cm long and adults are mainly uniform black. They eat algae and decomposing organic matter - sometimes
associating with hippopotamuses to clean their skin and habitat.
