Sentani Rainbowfish is native only to Lake Sentani in Indonesia's West Papua.
The larger, redder males can reach 12cm long.
The rapidly growing human population around the lake has resulted in an increasing amount of domestic waste
and pollution entering the lake, being a key contributor to the rapid decline of species that inhabit the lake. Introduced, invasive
species have exacerbated the decline. The Sentani Rainbowfish is critically endangered and may now exist only in the lake's tributaries.
