Kali Tawa Rainbowfish Melanotaenia sp. 'Kali Tawa'

The Kali Tawa Rainbowfish is endemic to the small "Tawa" stream near Lobo village, west Papua. A small rainbowfish reaching 8cm long, the adult male has a bright red tail and flashes an iridescent lateral line. Like most rainbowfish, the female is plainer. Its limited natural habitat makes it critically vulnerable. (It is also bred in captivity.)
