The Lake Eacham Rainbowfish used to be thought endemic to Australia's Lake Eacham (Yidyam), Queensland,
and thought to have been extirpated by predation by introduced fish (native to Australia, but not to the lake). Subsequently
the species has been found both in private aquaria and in other small local creeks and crater pools of the Barron and Johnstone River systems.
However, the species remains endangered. Adult males are more colourful and grow to 6.5cm long.
