The Crimson-spotted Rainbowfish, also called Red-spotted, is said to be the original "Australian Rainbowfish", collected in
the 1870s in New South Wales. It is native to calm, slow-moving waters around vegetation and tree trunks on the mid east coast of Australia.
They grow to 10-12cm long, with males more colourful than females, including having dark edges to fins which blacken further when breeding.
In addition to the red spot behind each eye, the flank is silvery often with tones of blue, green or even yellow - with some regional variation.
