This fish is called both the Green Pufferfish and the Ceylon Pufferfish. The former name, together with its spots,
leads to some confusion with the Green Spotted Pufferfish, D. nigroviridis. Moreover, its appearance and range leads to some
confusion with the Eyespot Pufferfish, D. ocellatus. Neither of those have the orange fins and tail of the Green or Ceylon Puffer.
Like the Green Spotted, the Green or Ceylon is native to brakish and estuarine waters of South and Southeast Asia;
the Eyespot is also native to fresh, brakish and even salt water of Southeast Asia.
The Green/Ceylon Puffer can grow to 17cm long. Diet is mainly shellfish which it crushes with its beak, and some other fish and vegetation.
Like other puffers, they can inflate their bodies with water or air when stressed. They contain a virulent toxin.
