The Spotted Congo Puffer/Pufferfish is native to part of the central Congo Basin mainly around Pool Malebo in the D.R. Congo.
The smallest of the African puffers, they can grow to 10cm long. They prey on smaller fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
Their location between the capital cities of Kinshasa and Brazzaville on either side of the Congo River means they are under continued and
growing threat of habitat degradation and pollution.
(The Congo Puffer or Potato Puffer, Tetraodon miurus, is a different species.)
