The pretty Marbled Swordtail is a platyfish that was endemic to creeks and streams of the Rio Salado river systems in northeastern Mexico. Since 1997 it is believed to be extinct in the wild and survives only in a limited number of aquaria in the US and Europe.

The male has an orange lateral line and develops a black-bordered greenish blue "sword" of the lower caudal fin after which the fish is named. Males can grow to 15cm long including the swordtail and females to 10-12cm. Platyfish are live-bearers.
