Red-gilled Pacu Myloplus asterias

The Red-gilled Pacu is native to waters of the Guyana Shield, the Orinoco and Amazon basins. The one shown has extensive red but often they are red-spotted ("asterias" means stars) like the closely-related Red Hook Silver Dollar. It can grow to 25cm long.
