The Eastern Bottlenose Mormyrid is native to freshwater systems in Zambia and Tanzania, including Lakes Malawi
and Tanganyika. Mormyrids are also called Elephant-nosed Fish, along with others in different genera in the same family.
There is also another relative called the Eastern Bottlenose, the similar-looking Mormyrus caschive of the Nile Basin.
It is sometimes called the Dolphin Mormyrid, but so are several others in its genus.
It grows to 75cm long. Mainly nocturnal, it hunts prey and navigates surroundings using electro receptors and
can give a mild electric shock for defence.
