The Zebra Loach is native to streams and river tributaries in a relatively small region of India's Western Ghats. Its common and scientific names refer to its stripes. It can grow to 9cm long and is a timid, bottom-dwelling fish that likes to hide. Young fish will "shadow" adult fish. It is endangered in its small range by habitat alteration.
