Sainthouse's Killifish is native to pools and puddles in northern Zambia, East Africa. They spend their whole life, of
less than a year, in a single small pool or puddle.
Males are brightly coloured red or blue with flowing fins. Females are clear greyish.
Eggs are laid in the pool and are encased in mud or clay when the pool evaporates in the dry season and the adult fish die.
When the rains return, the eggs hatch and complete the cycle again.
