The Gudgeon, called just the Gudgeon despite there being other species called gudgeons worldwide, is native to
streams and lakes of temperate Eurasia. It grows to some 12cm long. It has a row of dark spots along its flanks. It is gregarious with
its own kind and other small fish (above with minnow and with European freshwater smelt) and emits squeaking sounds to communicate.
