Called both the Dwarf and the Red or Flame Gourami, this fish is native to heavily-vegetated and slow-moving ponds, ditches, swamps and streams of Pakistan, northern India and Bangladesh. Captive-bred, cultivated variants include the Powder Blue, Sunset and Red Robin. Larger, more colourful males with longer fins grow to some 8cm long.
