Grass-eater Distichodus
The Grass-eater is a large distichodus (30-70cm long) native to Africa's Lake Chad basin west to Senegal. As a juvenile, it looks similar to juvenile Six-banded and Long-nosed with 6 vertical black stripes and orange fins. Like them, the stripes fade as it gets older and its background colour darkens and becomes uniform. As its common name indicates, it is a herbivore eating submerged plants and roots.
