The Six-banded Distichodus is native to Africa's Congo river basin (DR Congo, Rep. Congo, Central African Republic)
and Lake Tanganyika, Zambia and Angola.
(The fish above actually have seven bands but the snout is rounded - not long and slim enough to be the Long-nosed Distichodus).
A schooling fish, it is named after its six dark bands . . .
but both the bands and the orange colour fade as they age.
Adults can reach 75cm (30 inches) long.
