The Yellow-banded Cichlid, also called Duboisi Cichlid and the White-spotted Cichlid, is native to northern parts
of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa. There are three separate populations in the area and several regional variations in colour and pattern,
especially the colour and width of the band.
They grow to 12cm (5 inches) long. Juveniles are black with white spots, hence the White-spotted name, but lose the
spots then develop their adult colours, usually a blue head and yellow band.
The females are mouth brooders, both of eggs and for young fry. Diet is algae. The species is vulnerable.
