This Fenestratus Cichlid (also Fenestratum), an American "Vieja" species, is native to southeastern Mexico
and has several taxonomic synonyms. Note it is unrelated to another fish called "Fenestratus Cichlid", Protomelas fenestratus,
endemic to Africa's Lake Malawi. The larger, more colourful males (above) can reach over 35cm long. They can look similar to other Vieja
species, particularly to the Redhead Cichlid.
