The T-bar Cichlid, also called T-bar Convict Cichlid, is native to freshwater streams and lakes of the Pacific side
of Costa Rica, Central America.
Most have some degree of barring with a median line along the flank which gives the T-bar name, although the bars can be very faint
(the third bar is often stronger). Colours are brownish. Eyes are often light blue, especially on males. Breeding females usually have yellow on their dorsal
and anal fins. They grow to some 12cm (5 inches) long.
Juveniles (above left) are grey or grey-black. Parents are cave-spawners. Fry initially eat mucous from their parents skin.
