The Perlmutt Cichlid, also called Pearly Labidochromis, is native to the central eastern shore of Lake Malawi.
"Perlmutt" is German for mother of pearl - referring to the white iridescence of the fish. it is a "mbuna", preferring rocky areas.
Juveniles have strong, dark, vertical bars but adults progressively lose the barring, particularly males. It can grow to 10cm long.
