The Nkambae Cichlid is native to rocky shores of the southern part of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa.
Looking like a pike-cichlid, this dark, camouflaged fish hides in rocky crevices and preys on
smaller fish and crustaceans.
It grows to 14cm long. Its close relative, L. kendalli from the same area, looks similar
and is said to reach 18cm long. Some other species in the same genus also look similar, including L. elongatus
which reaches 30cm long.
As befits carnivores/piscivores, they are substrate spawners, laying eggs in a small cave, rather
than mouth brooders like many Tanganyikan cichlids.
