The Blue Mbuna (blue "rock fish") is native to Lake Malawi in Africa's Rift Valley and is superficially similar
to several other species and genera of cichlids in the lake. The Blue Mbuna has the overhanging snout and underslung mouth of the
Labeotropheus genus which is adapted to feed on algae from rocks.
Not all Blue Mbuna are blue. Many are different shades of blue with darker blue bars and some have yellow or red
on fins. Several are white with mottled blue-grey blotches. Colours and patterns vary by region.
Adult males have a few "egg spots" on their anal fin.
They grow to some 30cm long. Females mouth-brood their young.
