The Keyhole Cichlid, the only species in its genus, is a shy cichlid native to calm, well-vegetated
waters of the lower Orinoco in Venezuela and the Guianas river systems.
If they perceive danger, they hide and can alter their colour to blend with the background, such as
substrate or a log. They grow typically to 7-10cm long but can reach 12cm.
The keyhole name relates to the black blotch on their rear flank.
Monogamous pairs, both parents guard their eggs and fry until independent.
