The Golden Cichlid, also called Golden Mbuna, is native to southern Lake Malawi in Africa's Rift Valley.
The fish is named after the females and submissive/non-breeding males which, together with juveniles,
are predominantly golden yellow with white-edged black lateral stripes.
The dominant, breeding, adult males, shown above, are mainly black with a white or blue lateral stripe.
Small cichlids, they grow to some 11cm long. Females mouth-brood their young.
