The Featherfin Cichlid is native to rocky slopes of Lake Tanganyika in East Africa.
Living in groups, they grow to 21cm long, eat plankton and algae and have elongated pectoral fins which give them their "featherfin" name.
The blue in the dorsal fin and tail can look more "neon" than the Blue Neon Cichlid of the same lake.
They are the only fish in their genus (currently, but there is another contender), but another fish in the
southern end of same lake is also sometimes called the (Ventralis) Featherfin Cichlid - Ophthalmotilapia ventralis - and also
has elongated pectoral fins. Growing to 15cm long, it is also called the Blue Threadfin Mouthbrooder.
