The Paraguay Eartheater, also called the Argentine Humphead, is native to the Parana Basin in Paraguay, northern Argentina and southern Brazil and also to the Uruguay river drainage. Males (above), with an orange hue, can reach some 20cm (8 inches) long and can develop humpheads with age.

Females are yellower in colour and smaller reaching 12 cm (5 inches) long.
