The Unga, also called the Black-bellied (Blackbelly) Tilapia, is one of a small number of species of
cichlid native only to Cameroon's crater lake Barombi Mbo.
Mainly silvery grey with mesh scales, it grows to some 19cm long.
Diet is mainly phytoplankton and small shellfish. The fish, mainly the females, mouthbrood their young.
The Unga and the few other endemic Barombi Mbo fish are critically endangered due to human-caused pollution, deforestation,
sedimentation, overfishing and introduction of predators.
