The Malawi Blue Dolphin is not a dolphin but a humpheaded cichlid native to Lakes Malawi and Malombe of East Africa. It is also called "Moorii" (its taxonomic name, but there are other cichlids with the same epiphet in other genera, eg the Blunthead, Tropheus moorii) and the "Humphead" (but there are others with that, including the Frontosa Humphead of Lake Tanganyika and the Argentine Humphead). They can reach 23cm long; males are usually a stronger blue, often slightly striped and have a larger forehead hump. Liking sandy substrate, they often follow digging/sand-sifting species to feed on material whirled up. The only species in its genus, populations are vulnerable.
