The Formosan Pale Chub is endemic to Taiwan (formerly Formosa) and part of southeast China. It grows to
a maximum length of 9cm. (Note it is a different species and genus from the Pale Chub, also called Pale Bleak and Freshwater Sprat,
Zacco platypus, a common fish from much of southeast Asia and over-lapping the range of this rarer fish.)
The Kao-ping Chub (also Kao-ping Minnow) is endemic to fast flowing, well-oxygenated waters of southern Taiwan around the Kaoping River.
It lives in small groups and grows to 9-11.5cm.
