The Mekong Giant Catfish is native to main river channels of the Mekong basin in Indochina.
It grows to a massive 3 metres long and weighs 350kg but 90% of the population has disappeared in the last few decades.
Adults have no barbels or teeth. They are entirely herbivorous, eating plants and algae.
Paroon Shark
Mekong Giant
The Paroon Shark has longer fins (and higher eyes).
One of the largest freshwater fish in the world, populations continue to decline and it is critically endangered
by over-harvesting, habitat loss and by dam constuction limiting spawning.
