There are at least 4 small Asian fish with the common name Glass Catfish, all transparent-bodied shoaling fish.
This one is believed to be K. vitreolus, also called the Ghost or Phantom Catfish and native to rivers of Thailand. Other similar
fish include K. minor of Borneo, K. piperatus of Sumatra and the larger K. bicirrhis below. They were all
previously classed as the same species and resolved between 1989 and 2013. They lack scales like all catfish, have 2 long barbels and,
unusually, lack body pigment. They grow to some 8cm long.
K. bicirrhis Glass Catfish is slightly larger and slightly less transparent than the other 3 mentioned.
It was considered the same species as the above until 1989. It grows to some 15cm long.
It has two long barbels for locating food. (The purple hue in the images above is from ultraviolet light - the fish has no body pigment).
It is native to fast-flowing water of Indochina, Malaysia and Indonesia.
