The Giraffe-nosed Catfish, as appropriate for a species with "giraffe" in its name, is native to Africa. Its habitat
is large, shallow rivers and lakes with a muddy base.
Named after the shape of its snout and its spotted pattern, it is an omnivore, eating plankton, molluscs, seeds and detritus.
It can grow to a metre long.
It has large eyes to see in water depths but finds food mainly with its snout barbels. The spots of the young fade with age.
The female lays eggs in a nest guarded by the male until they hatch.
