The Golden Mahseer, also called Himalayan Mahseer, is a large and endangered carp native to fast-flowing streams,
large rivers and lakes of the Himalayan basins of the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra Rivers. (India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh,
Pakistan and possibly Myanmar).
It is omnivorous. It has been claimed that the Himalayan Golden Mahseer can reach 2.75m long but most are much less,
but up to 1.5-2m. It is critically endangered mainly through overfishing (particularly dynamite fishing), pollution and construction of dams
(it needs to migrate upstream to spawn).
