The Grass Carp doesn't have the long dorsal fin of the the Common Carp. Nor does it have the barbels. It is native to rivers of China and eastern Siberia, but has been introduced elsewhere including North America and the UK.

It is the only species in its genus and grows typically to a metre long but can reach 2 metres. Despite its massive size it is mainly herbivorous and has been introduced in some areas to control aquatic weeds. It requires long, fast-flowing rivers for spawning.
