The Isok Barb, also called Jullien's Golden Carp, is native to rivers of Indochina, although its
range has been much reduced to now mainly around the Mekong.
It is highly endangered through agricultural pollution, dam building and overfishing. The dam building has affected its
seasonal migration upstream for spawning in shallower water and the juveniles' development on floodplains.
It is one of the largest barbs, growing up to a metre and a half if allowed to complete its c.50 year life cycle.
It has small barbels on the mouth. It is an omnivore eating plants and crustaceans.
