Cherry Barb Puntius titteya

The Cherry Barb is native to well-shaded, calm, shallow streams of Sri Lanka. They reach some 5cm (2 inches) long. It is threatened by habitat loss and over-collection for aquaria.

The male is more brightly-coloured with a bright red body which turns to dark red when spawning. The female is orange-brown with a pale belly below a black lateral line and also turns a deeper colour when breeding.
