The Arulius Barb is native to large streams, rivers and lakes of the Kaveri River basin in south east India.
They are endangered by sand mining and industrial pollution. They grow to 12cm long.
Confusingly, they are also called Longfin Barb and the Tambraparni/Tamiraparani Barb, the latter being the name of a
related and neighbouring species D. tambraparniei, which used to be considered a subspecies.
