The Marbled Headstander, also called Norman's Headstander is native to fast flowing rivers, streams and flooded
forests of the Orinoco, Amazon and lower Parana river basins.
The Headstander name is from the fish's habit of eating algae from rocks in fast currents with its head downwards.
They also hang about in groups in still water heads downwards.
They have deeper bodies than most other headstanders, with high backs and vertical bars of dark on light. The adipose
and tail fins are tipped with orange or gold, as are usually the dorsal and anal fins. They grow to 13cm long.
