Silvery fish with a greenish wash on top and an upturned mouth, Atlantic Tarpons can reach over 2 metres (8feet) long, twice the length of Pacific Tarpons. Tarpons are the only species in their genus, among the oldest species of extant fish, and both species are unusual in needing to supplement their oxygen intake by breathing air (using their modified swim bladder).
