Wheeler's Prawn Goby, A. wheeleri, is native to shallow tropical reefs of the Indo-western Pacific. It grows to 10cm long.
Its pistol shrimp partner is usually the Fine-striped Snapping Shrimp.
The Pinkbar Prawn Goby, A. aurora, is native to tropical reefs of the western Indian Ocean. It grows to 11cm long
and forms a symbiotic relationship with Randall's Pistol Shrimp.
Prawn Gobies share burrows with species of pistol or snapping shrimp. The blind or poorly-sighted shrimp digs and maintains the
burrow that they share (called pistol shrimp due to the warning sound made when then snap their claws), while often keeping an antenna on or near its goby.
The keen-sighted goby's job is to provide warning of danger.
