Whiting (sometimes called Merling) are native to the northeastern Atlantic, including the Black Sea and
northern Mediterranean. They prefer the seabed area. They are maily shining white or silver with olive-brown speckling on the top
and flanks, a black blotch at the base of the pectoral fin and no chin barbel. They can reach 75cm long.
Other fish in North America and Australia-Pacific are also called Whiting, but they are unrelated.
