The CHOCOLATE PANSY Butterfly, Junonia iphita, above, also called the Chocolate Soldier, is native to the Indian subcontinent and SE Asia.
The similar BROWN PANSY Butterfly, Junonia hedonia, from Asia-Pacific, also confusingly referred to as the Chocolate Soldier
as well as the Brown Argus and even the Chocolate Pansy, is brighter and has a row of red spots on each wing.
The Chocolate Pansy comes in a range of shades including a reddish dark brown, "milk chocolate" and dark plain-chocolate brown,
although the brown is never "plain" but has distinct patterns.
Chocolate-coloured.
From the underside, the male, above left, doesn't have the pale marks of the female, above right.
