The American Golden Plover is very similar to the Pacific Golden Plover, Pluvialis fulva, and the European Golden Plover,
Pluvialis apricaria, all of which have a black face and belly trimmed with white and a golden back
in breeding plumage and the grey-brown above with white belly in winter plumage. Photos on this page were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in Mexico.
The American Golden Plover has one of the longest migrations, breeding in Arctic Canada/Alaska and wintering in Patagonia.
Their stop in Mexico was on the migration route.
