The Black-headed Lapwing is native to northern sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal in the west to Ethiopia in the east. It can look a little similar to its Asian relative, the Red-wattled Lapwing, with a small red fleshy patch, but the latter has a full black front of face with a full fleshy red patch from bill to eye (no white on the front or nape).
