The Red-wattled Lapwing is native to the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and SE Asia.
The "wattle" refers to the red, fleshy face patch between eye and base of beak in males and females.
It has a white wing bar visible in flight. Thanks to Dr Harsha Vardhan Reddy for the in-flight photo
of the Indian nominate subspecies above left.
They can appear grey-winged
or can appear mid-brown
but are generally a grey-brown.
