The striking bright red Scarlet Ibis is native to South America and the Caribbean. It is related to the American White Ibis.
Both male and female have bright scarlet plumage with black wingtips. Mature adults usually have black bills.

Diet is mainly aquatic crustaceans to give the red pigment but also fish, molluscs and insects.
They build loose nests in trees near water and roost in trees. They also fly well and some migrate.
They are gregarious, social, flocking birds.
